What's the difference between assembly and kitting?

Assembly means the parts are actually put together — fastened, wired, joined — into a finished unit. Kitting can mean that, or it can mean something lighter: packing the right parts, fasteners and instructions together without joining them, when the end customer assembles it themselves. Your engineer specs which one your product actually needs.

Can you assemble parts that come from different processes?

Yes — that's the default, not an exception. A CNC bracket, an injection-molded housing, a sheet-metal panel and off-the-shelf hardware are routinely built into one assembly under the same quote.

Do you quote an assembly as one line item, or each part separately?

You see the per-part breakdown, but the quote is for the finished, tested unit: mating tolerances checked against each other, commercial hardware included, finishes matched across processes, and everything converging on one delivery date. One price and one lead time for the product — not a stack of part prices you have to reconcile yourself.

Do you test the assembly, or just put it together?

Assemblies are functionally tested against what they're actually supposed to do — not just visually inspected. What 'functional' means is specified with your engineer at quoting, since it depends entirely on the product.

Can you source the fasteners and hardware, or do I need to supply them?

We can source and kit fasteners, inserts and other hardware as part of the same order — one kit, not a separate shopping list you manage yourself.

What if a tolerance stack-up problem shows up during assembly?

That's exactly what checking stack-up across the whole build before production is meant to catch — if two parts from different processes won't fit together as drawn, it gets flagged and corrected before tooling or a production run is committed, not discovered on a bench after everything ships.

Is assembly the same as packaging?

No, though they're often ordered together. Assembly builds and tests the product itself; packaging (the box, insert, label and manual) is what it ships in. Your engineer can spec either or both under the same quote.

What if my product doesn't need full assembly — just kitting?

That's fine — not every product needs joining. Tell your engineer what the end customer actually has to do with the parts, and the assembly and kitting level gets sized to that, not oversold.
